Bob, a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Civil Engineering is the founder and current President of MSA Engineering in Virginia Beach. Bob is a past President of the National Society of Professional Engineers and three time recipient of the state Engineering Society’s “Engineer of the Year” Award. He is an involved member of the community having served on the Virginia Beach Planning Commission, Virginia Beach Vision, Neptune Festival Committee, Town Center Kiwanis Club, and in his 30th year with Special Olympics and currently the President.
WHITNEY DEAR REYES
Whitney holds an undergraduate degree from James Madison University and a masters degree in Speech Pathology from Old Dominion. She is currently a Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Whitney is very close to her sisters, one of whom has an intellectual disability.
SCOTT N. ALPERIN
Born and raised in Norfolk, Scott is a respected estate planning, elder law, asset protection and wealth management attorney based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He has practiced law since 1994 and has extensive experience working with families and businesses. Scott is also an Estate Planning Law Specialist and Accredited Estate Planner.
Aaron is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he studied finance and real estate during his Navy training. Aaron manages Veterans United Home Loans of Hampton Roads, and has been a mortgage industry leader since leaving active duty. He and his wife have a beautiful seven year old daughter with Down syndrome which has compelled them to work hand and hand with the development of Vanguard Landing. Aaron and Julie have called Virginia Beach home since 2003 where they are raising their three children.
WENDY & JOHN NAPOLITANO
Wendy was born and raised in this area. She graduated with a degree in Special Education from Lynchburg College. John has been with Napolitano Homes since 1983. He also served as president of the Tidewater Builders Association in 2003 and is a member and current president of the Home Builders Association of Virginia. Wendy and John are the parents of a 26-year-old daughter with intellectual disabilities.
TOM BARTON III
Tom is a native son of Virginia Beach and earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a graduate degree from the NABA Dealer Candidate Academy. He is currently the President of Beach Ford and also serves on the Boards of Towne Bank, the Virginia Aquarium, VB Vision, and the Virginia Beach Police Department Foundation. He is committed to the Development of the new community asset of VGL. Tom is presently representing the City of Virginia Beach as King Neptune!
Julie and her husband, Chip, adopted a beautiful baby boy named Roman in 2004 from a Siberian orphanage. Several years later they discovered that Roman had Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Knowing the lack of options for Roman’s care, the Harshaws are adamant that Vanguard Landing will be built for their son and the hundreds of other people that need this community in order to live their lives to the fullest. Julie became an active Member of the Board in early 2016 and is excited to lend her skills and passion to the building and growth of Vanguard Landing.
THOMAS J. LYONS, JR.
Mr. Lyons, a graduate of Georgetown University, founded Tidewater Hotels & Resorts in 1968. During the course of his career, Mr. Lyons has developed and managed over 30 hotels in Virginia and North Carolina. Under his leadership, Coastal Hospitality Associates, LLC was formed to assume management of the hotels as their contracts mature and expire. Throughout his career, Mr. Lyons’ primary focus includes the overall planning and development of hotel sites, their architecture and design, new construction and capital planning/reinvestment strategies.
Tom Kyewski is a local Realtor currently living in Chesapeake. A graduate of Penn College in Pennsylvania, he and his wife have a deep sense of community and strive to help anywhere it is needed. Tom has worked with the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and is very excited to see Vanguard Landing exceed all expectations. He has a deep sense of pride to be a part of this community.
Rich grew up in Virginia Beach and continues to have family ties to the area. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from James Madison University. After college he moved to northern Virginia where he was a software developer for AT&T, and then a Systems Engineer with Lockheed Martin prior to coming to Microsoft. At Microsoft he has cultivated and expanded his skills in the roles of an Account Technology Strategist, a Solutions Specialist and his current position of an Accounts Executive.
Rich embraces the mission of Microsoft, ‘to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more”, and is determined to put his talents to use to assist Vanguard Landing in implementing their mission. Having a cousin with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), has given Rich a personal understanding of the need for intentional communities like Vanguard Landing to fill the void in the continuum of services for people with disabilities.
